      What Are Alocasia Plants?

Including an Alocasia in your tropical collection adds instant South Pacific Island vibes. The stunning plants grow from rhizomes or tubers and have arrowhead- or spear-shaped leaves. The species boasts a wide variety of interesting dark jungle tones. All Alocasia varieties display distinct vein patterning, providing eye-catching texture to any plant collection.

      Alocasia Care Requirements

Since these are tropical plants that evolved deep in balmy jungles, the five most essential requirements for your Alocasia plants are:

      1. Light: Alocasia plants prefer filtered light or partial shade. Although they require some light, they should never be placed in spots where their large leaves receive direct sunlight.
      2. Humidity: A gorgeous Alocasia may be the perfect choice if you need some greenery in your steamy bathroom! This species thrives in humid conditions and will benefit from regular misting or being placed on a pebble tray.
      3. Temperature: Alocasia plants love being warm and thrive when the environment is between 65 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If they do get too cold and the upper growth dies back, new growth can often be coaxed from the bulbs when conditions warm up.
      4. Water: Alocasias love damp soil, but they should never be water-logged, as they can quickly develop root rot.
      5. Fertilizer: Like most tropical plants, Alocasias are heavy feeders and benefit from regular fertilizing with a quality product to keep their foliage in impressive condition.
